Database Management

With Database Management you can perform database actions such as Converting, Backups and Restoring. You can access the Database Management area by clicking the "Green Bubble" in the navigator. Click the links below for detailed Information.

Database Connection

POSIM EVO allows you to store several different connection presets for quick access to multiple databases. For example you could have a Live database where all your actual information is stored and a Play or sample database to practice or train with.

Creating a new preset

Use the drop down and select "<NEW PRESET>" and you will see the following.

In this box type the name of the new connection preset. This name can be whatever you would like to help remember what the connection us used for. When you press OK you will see the following.

The "Server Address" is the box to type the IP Address for the Server Machine. NOTE: '127.0.0.1' means the server is on the local machine. Then type a Database name and press connect. If the database already exists POSIM will connect to it. If the database doesn't exist POSIM will let you know with the following message.

Click OK and you will see the following window.

From here you will choose which type of database you want to install.

New Database - This will install a blank database

Sample Database - This will install a sample database

Other (install from file) - Is used to restore from a previous backup. When this is selected it will ask you to choose the backup file to restore.

Convert

The Convert button allows you to convert an existing POSIM Diamond (Mac) or POSIM Premier (Windows) database to POSIM EVO. For more information click the links below.

Backup

The Backup button will allow users to manually take a backup of the database. For best practices, backups should be taken regularly and stored on the local computer and to an external drive or offsite backup service. Automated backups can be setup to run on a scheduled basis. Steps to manually Backup:

Click the Backup button.

When you click Backup you will see the following.

Type your Employee login username and password. Then press OK. You will then be asked where you would like to save the database with the following window.

Click Save and the database will be saved to the location you have selected. When complete you will see the following message.

Restore

The Restore button allows you to restore from a backed up database. See the steps below for restoring a database.

Click the Restore button.

Select the database backup you want to restore and press Open. When you press open you will give the following confirmation message.

When clicked you will be asked to locate the backup file on your computer with the following window.

Click Yes to this message the restore process will begin. You will see the following progress bar and message when the restore is complete.

Click OK and POSIM will restart and allow you to login to the newly restored database.
